The sculptor Fernando Crespo chose Fatima, in the Centenary of the Apparitions and on the visit of the illustrious pilgrim Pope Francis, to leave this artwork of aesthetic beauty and profound significance in the city of Peace. It is a symbol of multicultural dialogue, tolerance, peace and the care of Our Lady for all men.
This sculpture uses the Heart as a universal icon dividing it into two segments. The author wanted to remind Humanity, just as Pope Francis did that the heart supports Life and Faith. The left side of the heart represents religion and its dissemination as opposed to the fleeting side of life. This is the side that is exposed to light and pointing in the direction of the Infinite. On the opposite side, the right side is the fleeting side of life. A human figure walks down toward the centre of the earth. This walk is presided by shadows and inevitably leads to the end of everything. This is the Universal reality that the author wanted to expose to the World through a visual expression that arouses diverse reactions in the observers. Often, they do not contain their emotions and are flattened by the dimension of the sculpture and its message. This sculpture was blessed and served as reception to His Holiness Pope Francisco for the 100th anniversary of Fatima. Fernando Crespo is a recognized artist in Portugal. He was also an art teacher at the School of Arts. He makes street art in large-scale projects, sculpture and murals. He uses steel and bronze as the raw material for his sculptures. In his murals he uses the volcanic lava, ceramic glazes and gold. He is the author of many projects of public art. These works are orders of the Portuguese State, public companies and private clients around the world. This sculpture, Heart Francisco - the Greatest Heart of the World is his penultimate work. It was this sculpture that received Pope Francisco in Fatima on May 13, 2017. This sculpture celebrates the 100th anniversary of Fatima. The sculpture was publicly blessed by the Bishop Cardinal Antonio Marto of Leiria-Fatima. |
